Why are they getting into the drone market when there are so many incredible drone makers already. If GoPro wins in drones, they will just be killing off their allies. If they lose in drones, they lose their #1 spot.
Instead of innovating like they usually do, they are now following. This is not the right path!
I like GoPro's cameras because they are easy to use, small, and unbreakable. I don't think drones fall in any of those categories. I don't want and don't need one!
Instead of drones, I think GoPro should be investing in other industries:
Virtual Reality: an up and coming industry. Every big tech company is pushing in this direction. Why is GoPro not capitalizing on this huge interest as much as it could. They have some VR development as you can see in this video.
Medical Applications: Maybe trying to jerry rig a GoPro into a microscope. Strap on a Solar panel and send these all over Africa for "on the go" medical imaging anywhere.
Space/Military Applications: How about partnering up with SpaceX to put GoPro's all over their rockets and monitor everything. They started off well by documenting and sponsoring Felix Beauchamp's crazy jump, then they jumped to the martian. They need to keep this up and expand!!
Transportation: Why not use GoPros in the driverless Tesla and Google cars.
I guess they don't have as much "stoke" for those industries.
I think there is amazing opportunity for GoPro. Sports video has brought GoPro where it is today, but if it wants to keep going at it's current rate, I think it needs to get into other fields.
