In the US culture, once someone graduates from high school, they move away for college and after they don't come back to living with their parents at home.
In this post I would like to go over some reasons why it is a good idea to live at home after college.
- Save on rent. If rent is free you could probably save $10,000 in a year. Save up for something big!
- Save time by communal living - have meals with parents to reduce time cooking, less grocery shopping time etc.
- Less distractions than having roommates. Live a more focused lifestyle than the crazy, "all over the place" lifestyle of college.
- Quiet.
- Your parents won't be around for ever, so why not spend more time with them.
- Live in a family setting to learn about the values needed to start your own one day.
- Spend time and talk to your parents. Most of the time, you are similar to your parents, so most likely they will have had the same experiences that you will have in your life. You can learn from their accomplishments and mistakes.
- Your parents know a lot about you and can probably help guide you before you go off on your own.
- If you ever get sick and tired of being at home, you can easily afford fancy weekend trips to "get out of the house". Go skiing, visit friends across the country, go on a road trip, etc. Since that money is not going to rent, feel free to spend some of it.
