So you are a nature lover and want to do some good for the environment?
Move to the nearest big city!
Why? Here's why:
- Living in a densely populated area is much more environmentally friendly
- 1 million people in 5 square miles of high rises is much less taxing on the environment than 1 million people spread out over 100 square miles of individual houses
- More people = more demand for products = higher volume = less waste.
- Instead of having 5 small delivery trucks, you just have 1 big one.
- High volume = big data = highly efficient systems
- People share everything, stuff is actually used.
- Every inch of that sidewalk is used 18 hours a day
- Each subway car is on average at least half full all day long.
- Don't own a car
- Do everything by bike
- Take metro if you don't like bikes
- For farther distances take the train, or better yet, just don't leave the city
- Don't ride a scooter, those are the worst for polluting the air.
- Uber
- Walk to the store
- You will only buy what you can carry
- No water bottles
- No excess packaging/costco sized items
- Buy only what you need, don't buy food for the next 2 years
- That food will have less preservatives be healthier
- Walk everywhere
- No need for gym membership/or buying a ton of exercise equipment
- Live in an apartment
- There is barely room for anything that is not absolutely necessary
- You won't buy stuff
- No Garage! No gear, rent everything.
- Anything that isn't fully used, you will sell because it takes up too much space
- Tiny fridge = less food going bad
- Small closet = no room for extra clothes.
- Don't spend your money on things, but on experiences.
- Go buy a beer
- Go out to dinner instead of remodeling your kitchen
- Who is more environmentally friendly
- the nature lover who drives 8 hours each weekend to go to the mountains, or
- the couch potato who sits indoors in front of the TV all weekend?
- Probably the couch potato...
