I try to get bored because I get to just stop for a second. Usually I'll only get bored on Saturdays because the rest of the week I'm just in nonstop "go mode". Go to work, study for a new project, eat, sleep, laundry, meet with friends, exercise, repeat....
When you never stop running around, your brain doesn't have time to just stop and let the ideas wander a little bit. I think it's only when you start getting a bit bored that your brain just relaxes and thinks new things instead of thinking about problems you already have. Once you get bored it means there are no distractions. A bit of boredom helps me to really focus and be productive on the things that matter instead of being all over the place at once.
An example of this is the engineers working at los alamos on the atomic bomb. They had nothing else to do, so they got bored, and just thought harder on the work they were doing.
