Bike to San Diego

Biking to San Diego was a feat I wanted to try out for a while. I got the opportunity with my friend Uceph the other day. We left from Dana Point around 10 am, after making a good omelette with veggies, equipping our bike racks with ralphs baskets and getting all our high performance gear ready. We brought our wetsuits to jump in the water in san diego and  Uceph was riding a fixie bike!

We finally left and cruised out of Dana point, but quickly stopped at the bike religion shop to raise uceph's saddle. It needed two allen wrenches which is difficult with just one. Soon we were on the way again, riding near the harbor and then near doheny beach. We noticed the waves were completely flat and were happy we were not surfing. We rode on through san clemente and eventually got to trestles and then san onofre. We took a quick break and continued across a campground and on to pendelton. The military base is very nice to ride through because it is all natural and there are not a bunch of cars and stops. A Kernel told us to ride in a line instead of parallel. Nice of him to look after our safety. We stopped at the 7 11 and got a gallon of lemon lime gatorade. And we continued on into ocean side. I saw a women going much faster than us and realized she had one of those electric wheels… cheater haha. We quickly caught up to her though.

Now we could see the torry pines hill where ucsd is located which was our destination. Before we arrived we stopped at Uceph's old bike shop and hung out. Then we met up with Uceph's brother Farid for some carne asada fries which were awesome! There was some wet cement and both Uceph and Farid tried to skid on and fell one after the other which was entertaining-see photo. Then Farid showed us the campus and the Lab where he spends 16 hours a day at. We also stopped by the coffee shop to reboost for the long ride back. We decided it was a bit late, so we took the train to ocean side. Once at ocean side we rode on towards pendelton and stopped just after to try out some of those light painting photos. Soon we were back on the saddle towards dana point. We stopped by an old fashioned diner that was still open at 11pm and got some pan cakes. They hit the spot and were the perfect end to the ride.

Overall Great ride! All So cal people should try this out!! Its a great way to discover the coast. Next time we will try not to take the train and ride the entire thing! Also we will leave earlier to have time to jump in the water. During the ride I wore biking shorts for the first time and those suck!! they are so uncomfortable and I will never wear them again!
